It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like School Time

Everywhere we go, the signs of back-to-school are popping up. From supply lists and sales showing up at the stores to kids frantically trying to get in as much fun time as possible before it’s time to get back to business. We’ve pulled together a few tips to help get your school year off to a good start, including a peek at our latest arrivals for fall.
1. Start Making Lists
Along with the detailed lists of supplies your kids will need, start making a list of other school essentials that need to be located, repaired or replaced. Check backpacks for rips and tears, make sure lunch boxes are in good shape (and that there wasn’t a forgotten sandwich in there all summer…). If your kids wear a uniform to school, make sure all the pieces are in good condition and still fit.
If you need new school uniform shoes, try these simple and comfortable shoes by Umi. The hook-and-loop closure helps kids get themselves ready for school, and the simple styling makes them the right fit for most uniform requirements.

2. Get Organized
It might be too early to pack up the summer clothes, but it’s not too soon to clean out the closets and dressers to get everything organized and ready for rushed mornings. To help younger children get out the door with less help from you, try putting together a set of outfits so they don’t have to try to match separates (or worse, have to change). If you’re looking for a go-with-anything shoe that’s comfortable and cute, check out these options from Plae:

3. Get Ready for Fall Sports
The madness of the first few weeks of school can leave you feeling stretched thin. Get your gear together for fall sports before the rush so you and your kids are ready to go. We offer a complete line of athletic shoes for all ages, including these fun choices from New Balance:

4. Start Planning Lunches
Unless your kids eat lunches provided by the school, gearing up for another year of lunches can make you want to urge your seven-year-old to drop out. Get ahead of the game this year and have a game plan in place before the school year starts. There’s lots of bloggers out there who have done the work for you, so there’s no need to redo all their hard work.
We like this compilation from Bon Appetit because most of the options are simple, delicious things that kids will eat and don’t require itty bitty cookie cutters to make adorable fruits and sandwiches (although we’re pretty sure that most kids will take a pass on the egg-pickle-tuna-celery-onion sandwich…)
Another good list is this quick compilation of Non Sandwich Lunches from Mom to Mom Nutrition. What’s good about this list (besides the lack of boring sandwiches) is that all of the items are interchangeable. That way, you can head to the grocery store and stock up on essentials and mix-and-match based on your kid’s tastes.
And, if adorable cheeses are your thing, well, here’s one of those too.
5. Buy Cute Shoes
Ok, that one isn’t really a back-to-school tip, but we’re pretty excited about a few of these picks for fall so we have to share them:
Star Wars: The Jedi
Rumor has it that there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out this December. Make sure you’re ready with the Star Wars line from Stride Rite!

Not Too Soon for Boots!
Is it ever really too soon for glitter boots from J.J. Balleto?

It’s Almost Here!
UGG ® Boot season, that is!

Don’t Forget a Shoe Fitting!
The beginning of the school year is the perfect time for a free, professional shoe fitting at Big ‘n Little Shoes. Little feet grow so much over the summer; make sure you’re getting the best fit so your kids are happy to skip off to school in a few weeks!
